2009 Result

After a thriller of a race it was Solwhit, ridden by Davy Russell who get his head home first to win one of the best races of the Festival. Coming to the last, Champion Hurdler, Punjabi, looked to have the race under control but there were several in behind with obvious chances. Solwhit was one of those and once he had forged himself level with Punjabi he showed true battling qualities to win by a short head. Punjabi ran a great race to be second on ground that did not entirely suit and his performance should no way detract from his ability. Quevega, who took on the boys in this race, was not quite up to the task but she ran a good race to be third, with Sizing Europe running an encouraging race to be fourth.

  • 1st Solwhit, D Russell, C Byrnes, 2-1
  • 2nd Punjabi, B Geraghty, N Henderson, 7-2
  • 3rd, Quevega, R Walsh, W Mullins, 15/8 Fav
