The Champion Novice Chase

Another cracking Grade One epic, this race will be one of the highlights of the whole Festival in 2010 and always attracts a lot of interst from punters and fans alike.

2009 Result

Cooldine as expected went off as odds on favourite, but failed to live up to the reputation that he had earned himself when winning the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. The race was won by Rare Bob, who only a couple of weeks ago had ran third in the Irish Grand National. Cooldine finished in a tired fourth place in the end, having tried to lead from start to finish. However, he was never fluent over the fences and this took its toll at the end of the race.

Rare Bob trained by Dessie Hughes and ridden superbly by Paddy Flood had disputed the lead with Cooldine all the way, but at the end proved himself a better stayer on the day and fully deserved the win. Gone to Lunch also proved himself to be a tough horse and ran on well to be second, just heading Tony McCoy on Joncol on the post.

  • 1st Rare Bob, P Flood, D Hughes, 7/1
  • 2nd Gone To Lunch, B Geraghty, J Scott, 16/1
  • 3rd Joncol, T McCoy, P Nolan, 7/2
