Guinness Gold Cup

Punchestown Festival Day Two has eight races with the feature being the famous Grade One Guinness Gold Cup which is always noted as one of the highlights of the entire Festival

2009 Result

Favourite, Notre Pere delighted his many supporters when he easily won the Gold Cup at Punchestown. Always prominent, Notre Pere vindicated his trainers, Jim Dreaper's plan, by winning this after missing the Irish National at Fairyhouse. He came into race very fresh and looked to be the winner a long way from home. Second was the fast finishing Schindlers Hunt, while a tired but game, Scotisirish came home third.

The race seemed to confirm that Imperial Commander, winner of the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham does not stay 3 miles at Grade One level and was pulled up two fences from home

It was Notre Pere's third big win of the season, he won the Troytown Chase and the Welsh National before this and has earned a 10/1 quote for the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup

  • 1st Notre Pere, J Dreaper, A Lynch, 15/8 Fav
  • 2nd, Schindlers List, D Hughes, P Flood, 16/1
  • 3rd, Scotsirish, W Mullins, R Walsh, 12/1
